Bacong is a coastal municipality in the province of Negros Oriental in the Philippines.

Bacong was founded 1801 as a coastal settlement. It is the Province’s first town south of the Capital. The famed Church of San Agustin de Hippo and its monastery’s construction was started in 1866 by Fray Leandro ArrĂșe Agudo.

Points of touristic interest are a string of beaches the length of the Bacong shoreline, sinamay hand looms, and the Negros Oriental Arts and Heritage (NOAH) which produces export quality stone craft furniture, jewel boxes and fashion accessories.

The Park with the treehouse behind the municipality hall with its old huge trees is a clean and nice place to visit, unwind, and relax.

This cannot be said to the black beach here. The beach is destroyed by a big sea wall and the few meters of beach still left are full of rubbish and is a total disgrace. Even the church grounds are not kept well and lacking maintenance, as to see in this video.

In contrast, the temporary fruit and vegetable market on the street under the large acacias is a feast for the eyes. Friendly stand owners keep everything clean.

This was my third visit to Bacong between 2018 and 2023 and this time I am very disappointed with Bacong.
